What is compound absenteeism?

Compound absenteeism occurs when an employee reports recovered and then drops out again within 4 weeks (28 days). The nature of failure in compound absenteeism is irrelevant.

Because these reports occur shortly after each other, there is no question of a new sick period. The weeks of illness are then added together, making a single period of illness. This continuous sick leave is also known as "chain absenteeism. If the accumulated periods add up to 104 weeks (two years), the wage payment stops.

Pregnancy-related absenteeism

There may also be compounded absenteeism if it is pregnancy-related absenteeism. In order to speak of compounded absence, however, there must be the same cause before and after the leave.

Composite absenteeism may also occur in the period prior to the Sickness Benefits Act. Are you self-insurer for the Sickness Benefits Act? Then Resolu's case manager will examine with you what possible consequences this may have for the former employee and/or former employer.
