If you receive WIA benefits, you may be reassessed within five years of the award. But what does such a reassessment entail? And what can you expect from this process? At Resolu, we understand that these are questions on many people's minds. Therefore, in this article, we explain what a WIA reassessment entails and how we can support you.

What is a WIA reassessment?

A WIA reassessment is an evaluation by the UWV to determine if your disability has changed since the previous assessment. This may result in an adjustment of your benefits. A reassessment can be requested by yourself, your (former) employer or the UWV itself.

When does a reassessment take place?

A reassessment may occur if.

  • Your health has improved or worsened.
  • New medical information is available.
  • The UWV deems it necessary based on previous assessments.

It is important to know that you can request your own reassessment if your situation has changed.

How does the process work?

The reassessment process consists of.

  1. Application: You submit a request to the UWV.
  2. Medical assessment: An insurance physician assesses your medical condition.
  3. Employment expert assessment: An employment expert reviews what work you can still do.
  4. Decision: The UWV makes a decision about your benefits.

The UWV aims to make a decision within 8 weeks, but this may vary depending on the complexity of your situation.

What are the possible outcomes?

After the reassessment, there are three possible outcomes.

  • No change: Your benefit remains the same.
  • Increase: Your benefit is increased if your disability has increased.
  • Reduction or termination: Your benefits are reduced or terminated if your disability has decreased.

If you disagree with the decision, you can file an objection with the UWV.
