When you suddenly become seriously ill, everything changes. Your daily life, your work and your future plans are suddenly at risk. For an ex-employee whom Resolu allowed us to guide, this became the new reality. His story shows how drastic illness can be, but also how much power there is in acceptance and perseverance.

A sudden turn of events

"Until the moment of diagnosis, I was fit and adventurous in life. Nothing was too crazy. And then suddenly... Out of nowhere, your life changes and literally and figuratively hangs by a thread."
This is how he describes the period when he became ill and was forced to go on sick leave. Where he had always been independent and powerful, he now became dependent on treatments and appointments with specialists. The feeling of losing grip and being helpless weighed heavily.

Challenges during absenteeism

The biggest regret? Not being able to participate in society anymore. "You can fight it so hard, but in the end it only works against you." He also experienced little support from his employer or colleagues. That made the period extra hard and lonely.

Lessons and insights

Despite the difficult circumstances, he looks to the future with realism. "Be prepared that you have to do it yourself. During illness a lot comes on yourself, with feelings of loneliness." Yet there is also hope: with the right people around him and perseverance, he believes he can pick up his life again. Maybe not exactly as it was, but as a more complete person with more life experience. His main advice: "Seize the day and don't dwell too long on what you can no longer do."

Hopeful ahead

His current plans are simple but powerful: recover - physically and mentally - and be able to enjoy life again. The process of acceptance remains difficult, but step by step he is working toward a future that is once again valuable.
