The Self-Employed Persons Disability Insurance Act, or WAZ, was a mandatory insurance that entitled entrepreneurs to a benefit of 70% of the minimum wage when a self-employed person became disabled. This form of benefit can only be applied for by self-employed entrepreneurs who became disabled before August 1, 2004.
How long is a person entitled to WAZ benefits?
There is no end date for the WAZ benefit. This meansthat as long as the situation does not change, a person remains entitled to this benefit. Changes that can cause the benefit to stop are:
- A person is less than 25% disabled;
- Someone is unwilling to cooperate with a (re)assessment;
- A person has reached state pension age;
- A person moves abroad for three months or more and the Netherlands has not agreed on a social security treaty with this country;
- Someone is in detention for a month or more;
- A person does not have Dutch nationality (anymore) or a valid residence status.
